This is one of the first articles my mentor printed out and gave me to become familiar with the desired dachshund structure. These are areas that the judges are looking at very closely when judging a dachshund along with temperament. Color and pattern are generally the last thing looked at by most judges. IF there are two dachshunds that display equal conforming structure, THEN it is very likely the judge will choose the red or black/tan over any other color or pattern. I can remember taking this article to the first few dog shows with me to match it up with what I was seeing in the showring. It truly helps to be able to begin to identify a true 'show quality' dachshund. There are plenty of very healthy, well-tempered and wonderful pet quality dachshunds, but very few that truly have the structure to become champions.
First, look at the graphic below and see if you can put them in order from best structure (first place) to worst structure. Then click on the link below the graphic to see the answers and read the reason for each place. If you do ever go to a dog show, take a copy of this article with you. See if you can determine the first place dog before the judging is over

WEll Sue, I was doing great with the test until i started second guessing my picks. LOL! I picked the correct first place dog, then second guessed my decision and put him in second place. LOL Put the third place dog in first and the second place dog in third.(boy I hope you can keep up with me here,LOL) Got the fourth place dog correct and the fifth and sixth in reverse order> Don't guess they'll be calling me to judge any shows soon! LMBO!
That was fun!!!!!!!

I was off a lot. My 1st place was B. I'm printing the article and studying it more closely.
Thanks for this! _________________ I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Ha, Danny! You nut!
You're right. You'd better not ever be a judge! You would make a single-day Dog Show last a week!!!!

That was fun! Thanks Bambi for pointing out this test to me!!
I got all the dogs right except the last two.
I was so excited I placed them almost all correct.
I've shown alot of animals in my day (hahaha, horses, sheep, lammas, pigs, rabbits, cows, goats) but not dogs before, so this was alot of fun and a great test of your ability.

Hey Alisha,
You gave me another idea, for your getting ready to show your doggie. You mentioned showing all those other critters. Is there a 4-H'er who would be able to take your little kid to 4-H training sessions? Maybe there's a 4-H group near you.

Bambi~
I actually thought about that, but unfornately since I was in 4-H the dog group has dissolved, (not enough members). That would be so cool though. Great experience for socialization for her and getting showing practice in. I'll keep searching for things I can do, Im not going to give up.
Thanks again,
Alisha~ |

Another possible idea. I was talking to a breeder about you, over the weekend. She mentioned you might try FFA for classes. (I wouldn't have even thot of that group!)

Well I did fair I think being new to Doxies but not new to showing dogs and being familiar with breed standards.
I picked the right dog first but i got second and third mixed up and then also switched 5th and 6th..... Still have lots to lear I guess!
