We adopted our first dachshund, Rusty, 15 years ago, when my husband and I were young and active. I was a stay-at-home mom, there were kids around to keep him occupied and he was our only rambunctious dog. Sadly, he passed away about 4 years ago so last fall we adopted another dachshund, Willis. I am ashamed to say that we are one of “those” people who adopted without thinking of all the ramifications. He has turned out to be more of an independent spirit than we need right now, now that we both work full time, the kids are gone and my husband had a heart bypass last year. We have taken him to puppy classes, so he does have the basics in place but we just don’t have the drive to do the full training that he needs. I have struggled with this for a few months now and I had just decided things were going to work out but then he started attacking Sam, our Chihuahua, over treats and toys.
Willis is a good dog and a superior dachshund so if you feel you or someone you know can give him what he deserves, please contact me so we can talk about finding him a happy home in northeast Florida. Thank you for listening, K beanieindy@yahoo.com |

contact DRNA http://www.drna.org/contactus.asp
click on the map and it'll give you a contact name or state rep for your area of the country... I found a stray dachshund in Jan, and decided I couldn't keep him... so I contacted the loacl DRNA rep via email and after some searching, she found a foster home for him where he stayed and went up for adoption. a month later he was adopted... they have volunteers all over the country and transport dogs all the time to their foster home... on the weekends they schedule whats called the Dachshund Express, it's a group of volunteers all over the country that transport the dogs for short 1-2hr drives, until they make it to the foster home..
here's the stray Waters, I recently found a home for through DRNA.. It's great group and is completely made up of people who love dachshunds and volunteer in rescueing dachshunds and finding good homes for them...
here's waters story http://www.doxietown.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1731
you could make the same happen for Willis... click that link above and start the process... _________________ Scoot---------------Bea
